Dr. Bongi Wenyika PhD, MHR

Disability Advocate & Speaker

I help families navigate systems & access support by supporting inclusive policy, practice and lived empowerment.

Work

I believe storytelling is activism. My work centers voices pushed to the margins-disabled children, overburdened caregivers, and immigrants unlearning silence. Whether I am writing a memoir, speaking on a panel, or mentoring others through their healing, I am led by this truth at heart:Our pain is not weakness. Our survival is wisdom. And our voices-no matter how long they’ve been buried-are worthy of being heard.

About

I am a Zimbabwean-born writer, journalist, and advocate shaped by truth-telling, caregiving, and a relentless pursuit of justice. My advocacy began in Zimbabwe, reporting on underserved communities alongside nonprofits. Journalism taught me service; survival taught me resilience. Now based in the U.S., I champion families like mine navigating caregiving and complex systems for loved ones with disabilities.Having experienced the failures of family court, education, healthcare, and religion firsthand, I work to expose and mend these cracks. I bring lived experience and academic rigor—holding a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies—to bridge personal stories with systemic change. Grounded in community and informed by grassroots needs, I remain committed to uplifting the most impacted among us.

Contact

My goal is to support families and individuals with intellectual disabilities by sharing insights from my personal journey raising a child with ID-offering empathy, guidance, and real-world understanding that only lived experience can provide.
